Biography

Vivian Maier was born in New York City in 1926 to a French mother and an Austrian father. She spent much of her life working as a nanny in Chicago, where she took thousands of photographs, primarily of street scenes and candid moments. Maier's work remained largely unknown during her lifetime, and she was discovered posthumously when her photographs were auctioned off in 2007. Her unique perspective and mastery of the medium have since garnered significant acclaim, leading to exhibitions worldwide and a growing recognition as one of the most important street photographers of the 20th century.
