Wang Yuqi
Biography
Artist, filmmaker, and writer.
Born in Shanghai, China, in 2000, she holds a BA in Mixed Media Fine Art from the University of Westminster, UK. Her practice spans experimental moving image, installation, performance, and transmedia narrative. Her research focuses on existence and free will, the real and the simulated, and the tensions between the individual and the system. Through decentralised narration and distributed modes of spectatorship, she examines how algorithmic forms of viewing reshape subjectivity and their ethical consequences. Situating Eastern and Western philosophies within a contemporary technological context, she adopts an interdisciplinary methodology to explore how the subject is shaped, regulated, and redefined within systemic structures.
Her work has been exhibited at Guardian Art Center (Beijing), chi K11 Art Museum (Shanghai), Liu Haisu Art Museum (Shanghai), the Royal Academy of Arts (London), the Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow), and the Los Angeles Convention Center, among others. Experimental films she has contributed to have been presented in contexts associated with the Cannes Film Festival and BAFTA.
Recent solo exhibitions include Infinite Origin: Programmed Void, chi K11 Art Museum, Shanghai, 2026; Born Beneath the Dome, Civico 23 Gallery, Salerno, 2026; Eternal Boundary, None Project Gallery, Shanghai, 2023; Reality and Dreamspace, PHILART Agency, Paris, 2022; and Reality and Dreamland, 4B103 Gallery, Shanghai, 2021.
