Gallery Place M

Place M Gallery was founded in 1987 in Shinjuku by Daido Moriyama and Masato Seto. The gallery’s name derives from the initial “M” of Moriyama’s name, and it has become one of Japan’s most vital independent photography galleries.

Over the past 38 years, it has presented more than 1,500 exhibitions. Its activities span exhibition production, artist representation, publishing, and art education.

In 2025, Place M expanded to Shanghai, approaching photography through more diverse perspectives and establishing itself as a new marker within the visual arts and cultural landscape.
