Press Release
“A Frame” is the smallest unit of time in the flicker of cinema—a discrete, indivisible, and arrested instant; “as record” marks the incursion of memory into the material world, the trace that remains after time has passed.
Welcome to the newly opened Halfull Project space. As its inaugural exhibition, A Frame as a Record presents a selection of three photographic works by Yang Fudong, one of the most representative figures of contemporary Chinese moving-image art. The works are drawn from two major series from the early and mid stages of his career—The Fifth Night (2009) and International Hotel (2010). Both are rendered in Yang Fudong’s signature black-and-white visual language, unfolding a psychological theatre that drifts between illusion and reality, past and present, while engaging with the recurring themes of existence and time, as well as his sustained exploration of the cinematic medium.
