Press Release
Jointly organized by Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum, Beijing Minsheng Art Museum, and the Fondation Giacometti, this panoramic exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the full trajectory of Alberto Giacometti’s artistic career and life.
Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966) is one of the most iconic artistic figures of the 20th century. With his singular sculptural language, he secured an irreplaceable position in the history of art. Structured into 13 sections, the exhibition brings together 212 major works and archival materials from the Fondation Giacometti, spanning sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, manuscripts, and other forms of creation. At the same time, the exhibition unfolds through key threads of the artist’s life, including his deep bonds with his family, his memories of the natural landscapes of his native Switzerland, and his daily walks through the streets of Paris, inviting viewers to come closer to Giacometti’s life and inner world.
Through a more intimate mode of narration, the exhibition seeks to move beyond the conventional image of Giacometti as an artist isolated from the world and wholly absorbed in his work. Instead, it reveals a side of his artistic career rich with warmth, lived experience, and emotional texture. While presenting the vastness of Giacometti’s artistic universe to the public, the exhibition also uncovers hidden and moving corners of the master’s creative life, allowing audiences to encounter a more authentic Giacometti beyond the legend.
The exhibition coincides with the 60th anniversary of Alberto Giacometti’s death and is one of the most important exhibition projects of the 2026 Croisements Festival. Academically supervised by the Fondation Giacometti, the exhibition is co-curated by Dr. Liu Zhenzi of Minsheng Art Museum and Romain Perrin of the Fondation Giacometti. Renowned French exhibition designer Cécile Degos has been specially invited to lead the spatial design, creating an immersive and welcoming viewing experience that gradually draws visitors into Alberto Giacometti’s artistic universe.
