Aman Asheer: Half

CHAPTER 6 is honored to present Half, the second solo exhibition of Aman Aheer. This exhibition brings together a body of new work concerned with incompletion, partiality and severance, presented here for the first time.

The works dwell on forms and found objects from the domains of theatre, worship, and everyday life. Emerging from Aheer’s ongoing interest and research into the aesthetics of performance and devotion across Asia, they continue the artist’s concern with questions of absence and presence, composition and decomposition. Charred wood is utilised as both apparatus and as ornament, extending the artist’s continued use of the shou sugi ban technique in which a material is partially destroyed in order to secure its preservation. Dung occupies a similar status, suspended between support and embellishment.
