About the exhibition

Press Release

Constructs of Belonging is presented by E.SCAPE Art Space, a collaboration between Angela Lyn, a cross-media artist living in Switzerland, and Guo Guozhu, a photographer based in Xiamen. The exhibition brings together Guo’s photography with Lyn’s cross-media installations, examining the theme of home through its negative spaces, asking what remains and echoes as our sense of home and belonging begins to shift and dissolve.

Spanning the three floors of the restored 1920s British villa, which houses E.SCAPE Art Space at No. 3, Lane 40, Wukang Road, Shanghai, the exhibition engages with the building’s layered history, using the space to explore the temporalities of home, domesticity, and urban change.

Moving through material traces of habitation, dreamlike interiority, and the natural world, the exhibition unfolds across scales—from the intimate scale of lived objects to broader forces of social and environmental transformation. The works are bound by a shared empathy across generations, mediums, and geographies, reflecting both personal and universal themes.
