Press Release
In In the Quiet After, Ngoc Nau continues her inquiry into memory, historical trauma, and the changing conditions of image-making. Extending from her earlier series Silent Nights, the exhibition brings together illuminated photographic installations and AI-generated imagery to consider how histories are transmitted when remembrance is increasingly shaped by technological mediation.
Drawing on fragments of oral testimony, migration narratives, and inherited memory, the works move between documentary trace and speculative reconstruction. The synthetic image is not treated as the opposite of the real, but as part of a shifting field in which memory is produced, displaced, and reimagined.
Rooted in local histories while opening onto wider structures of displacement, industrial expansion, and colonial residue, In the Quiet After asks what remains visible after historical violence has passed into silence. Here, light is both material and method: it reveals, but also marks the limits of what can be recovered.
Situated between archive and apparition, the exhibition reflects on memory as an unstable form of knowledge in the age of algorithmic vision.
