Lishuang Xu: Passing, gnissaP

Lishuang Xu’s solo project Passing, gnissaP is presented as part of ShanghART M50’s Corridor Project. Beginning with aspects of everyday behavior that seem to require little conscious thought, she approaches the body as both an interface and a method, translating otherwise implicit rules and structures into perceptible bodily experiences.

Passing, gnissaP takes the act of “passing through” as its point of departure and unfolds in two distinct directions: the former refers to the body passing through space, while the latter describes industrial objects that intervene in the senses passing through the body. By reversing the direction of movement, altering the sequence of actions, and reorganizing the relationship between body and tool, Xu brings these two trajectories into juxtaposition. Through specific actions, everyday experience is consequently transformed.
