Press Release
Pond Society is pleased to announce that A Terra Sonha Ossos, a solo exhibition by Brazilian artist Thalita Hamaoui, has been open to the public since 28 August. A Terra Sonha Ossos (The Earth Dreams Bones) takes its title from Thalita Hamaoui’s large-scale painting, which anchors this exhibition, and reflects a question at the heart of her practice: What if the earth itself dreams, remembers, and carries desire? Inspired in part by the writing of Brazilian Indigenous philosopher Ailton Krenak, Hamaoui understands nature as a living presence rather than a landscape to be observed. Her paintings grow from an embodied relationship with the Atlantic Forest near São Paulo, where she reconnects with the rhythms of the natural world. The title evokes the hidden structure of the earth—the bones from which all life emerges and to which it ultimately returns.
Hamaoui approaches painting as an act of listening rather than representation. Working intuitively, she allows each image to emerge through layers of color, gestures, and erasure. Her paintings pulse with movements, inviting viewers to experience color as sensation before interpretation. Presented in the artist’s first solo exhibition in China, these works explore ancestral time, memory, and the interconnectedness of all living systems.
