Wang Fansen: New World

Perrotin (Shanghai) is pleased to present “New World,” a new solo exhibition by Chinese artist Wang Fanseng, opening on March 14, 2026. The exhibition marks the artist’s first collaboration with the gallery. Bringing together works spanning from 2008 to the present, the exhibition traces Wang Fanseng’s long-term painting practice and his sustained engagement with ideas of “post-Orientalism” and “non-iconographic existence.”

From the artist’s early works—marked by ornate imagination and playful pastiche rooted in the tradition of Chinese landscape painting—to his later investigations of non-realistic imagery and historical “citation,” Wang Fanseng links the mundane with the sacred. Through a systematic pictorial construction, he creates images in which nature, humanity, and the void merge into a unified spatial field, revealing a worldview and artistic philosophy characterized by openness, composure, and reconciliation.
