Sibei ART

SibeiART, founded in Hangzhou in 2026, is a non-independent art institution. For this presentation, SibeiART will feature works by 29 Chinese photographers. Among them, Zhang Xiao’s Shehuo: Community Fire reflects the artist’s decade-long engagement with the traditional festival rituals of shehuo in northern China. Gao Shan’s Distance in filtration employs constructed photography to explore questions of individual identity, memory, conflict, and migration, revealing the conditions of individual existence today. Xie Guixiang’s Unearthed abandons the camera altogether: seeds, fruits, and fish are placed on photosensitive paper, buried in the soil, and left to ferment and develop, allowing the process of material disappearance to appear on the photographic paper. In doing so, the work reflects on the production of images and opens up new imaginings of life itself. Yang Yihang’s Lost Land and Qian Jin’s Danger Zone — Red Mountain Series, meanwhile, use repetitive labor to “damage” and reconstruct the photographic image itself, thereby dissolving the authority of photography and its pursuit of meaning.
