ART ON SPACE (Core)
Fair Program
Open exhibitor programArt On Space is located in Chuihong, Foshan—a community organically rooted within the city’s cultural and artistic fabric. As an independent art space centered on books, moving images, and exhibitions, it focuses on the intersections and extensions of photography, spatial installation, and diverse artistic practices, advocating for “an intellectually engaged aesthetic sensibility.” From long-term collaborations with influential European artists to supporting the practices of emerging contemporary Chinese artists, Art On Space promotes multidirectional exchange in contemporary image-based art through an international perspective and a research-driven approach. With photography and spatial art as its primary focus, the space regularly organizes exhibitions and public programs while continuously building a collection of image works of contemporary significance, making it one of the few art spaces in the Greater Bay Area dedicated to contemporary photography. Through collaborations with institutions in Europe, Japan, and China, the space further expands the international context and exchange of image-based art.
Booth Highlight:
The artworks presented by Art On Space explore how images can map the edges of experience that cannot be directly grasped by the senses. Invisible Measures points toward latent structures hidden within the skeleton of civilization, algorithmic logic, the interstices of daily life, and acts of manual labor. Moving between grand narratives and embodied micro-perceptions, four featured artists collectively construct an inquiry into the measurement of “existence.” João Miguel Barros captures fragments of everyday life through micro-narratives; Zhang Lanpo employs an “anatomy of images” to juxtapose reality and metaphor, history and mythology. Mitar Terzic constructs handcrafted theatrical scenes that translate tradition, literature, and philosophy into allegorical imagery. Ivona Tau uses deep neural networks and personal data to challenge contemporary questions surrounding authorship and ethics in generative imagery.
