JR (b. 1983, Paris, France)
JR is a contemporary artist whose practice spans photography, public art, film making, and socially engaged projects. Over the past two decades, he has realized landmark public interventions and site-specific installations in cities across the world. Underlying the film work presented here is JR's long-standing social practice: through community participation, expansive ideas are translated into intimate human moments. As he has said, "The process of realizing an idea is an adventure." The works presented here embody that spirit—where imagination and collaboration allow the seemingly impossible to take shape in reality. JR's art calls for participation and action. His practice extends beyond the boundaries of the museum, often drawing its vitality and transformative social force from deep connections with the people he photographs.
