ShanghART

ShanghART, founded in 1996, is one of the first contemporary art galleries established in China, now maintaining spaces in Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore. For the past twenty years, ShanghART has kept devoting to the development of contemporary art in China and also kept close and long-term cooperation with more than 60 artists. Sustaining the highest quality in presenting contemporary art exhibitions and projects, ShanghART regularly participates in the major international art fairs and collaborates with important art institutions in China and from all over the world.

Booth Highlight:

The booth is presented under the theme "Photo Beyond Image," featuring a selection of photographic works that move beyond the traditional medium of photographic paper. These works liberate the image from the two-dimensional surface and transform it into a comprehensive expression through installation, structure, materials, and space. Through the use of X-ray film, segmented constructions, three-dimensional frames, and layered materials, photography is no longer merely an image to be viewed, but becomes objects and spaces that can be perceived, read, and physically experienced.

All the works in the booth point toward a shared question: When photography leaves photographic paper, what else can it become? The answers unfold in these works as multiple forms — objects, structures, time, the body, and memory.
