Artox Group x BONIAN SPACE
Fair Program
Open exhibitor programArtox Group and BONIAN SPACE jointly present a dual solo exhibition featuring Japanese postwar photography master Nobuyoshi Araki and Chinese female photographer Yushi Li. Both artists use photography to articulate perspectives on the gendered gaze, taking flowers or the body as their subjects to explore enduring human themes: love, desire, life, and death.
ARTOX GROUP has collaborated with Japanese photography master Nobuyoshi Araki to create a modular art furniture series. Inspired by the assembly logic of traditional Japanese woodworking used in tea-room objects, the series incorporates Araki’s profound artistic vision and distinctive imagery into furniture decoration. The furniture set can be freely assembled into household objects of different functions and volumes. It serves not only as functional furniture for living spaces, but also as a decorative, toy-like art object with a contemporary design sensibility. Featuring flowers photographed by Araki as the main visual motif, and red and black as the dominant colors, the set consists of 11 irregular components that can be assembled into eight different forms of household furniture.
Founded in Beijing in 2022, BONIAN SPACE focuses on the discovery and promotion of young contemporary artists. Through exhibitions, academic research, public education, and other formats, it supports dynamic creators with vitality and a global perspective in their professional development. The space is committed to fostering international exchange and collaboration among artists, the public, and various institutions, while exploring further opportunities and possibilities within the context of contemporary art. At this edition of PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, BONIAN SPACE will present classic series by the important artist Yushi Li. Her practice spans photography and moving image. Through staged photography, she constructs imagined scenes that continuously challenge existing gender narratives and modes of looking, exploring more fluid and open non-binary relationships.
