After a two-year hiatus, “Xinkang Restaurant” returns this spring at Blunt Society. Initiated and curated by Blunt Society, this fictional “old Shanghai restaurant” has long explored ways of organically combining art exhibitions, dining events, and cross-disciplinary cultural exchange, forming an ongoing banquet that never quite disperses.
For “Xinkang Restaurant 2.0,” Yushe has invited seventeen artists (and artist groups) from across the international scene to present a “grand feast” that approaches the relationship between food and art from multiple perspectives. A significant portion of the works on view are specially commissioned by Yushe and unveiled for the first time, extending from the exhibition galleries into the kitchen space.
At the same time, continuing a hallmark of previous editions, selected artists and invited guests will take on the role of guest chefs throughout the exhibition period. Taking advantage of Yushe’s fully equipped professional kitchen, a series of “Pop-up Kitchen” events will be held—private, invitation-only dinners and cultural gatherings staged periodically within the space. In this way, “Xinkang Restaurant” becomes a unique kind of “art private-kitchen” restaurant, where culinary practice and artistic exchange unfold together.
